Understanding HOW To Do Business

For a couple of months I'd been searching for a way to get my thoughts out of my head and onto something like a recorder - while in the shower. I do some of my best writing when I'm in the shower. The problem? No way to get it on 'paper' so by the time I get out of the shower, the thoughts are gone forever.

I mentioned this to an associate of mine who told me to go to the scuba shop - they have boards you can write on in water.

So the other day I ventured into the scuba shop - Aqua Specialists, Inc. I saw people through the window so I just walked in. Then it dawned on me that they might not be open yet. The man at the counter asked me how he could help me. I asked if he was open and he said - 'I can be. What do you need?'

I told him and he got them for me. I realized at that point that he wasn't opening for about 1/2 hour. Yet, he didn't tell me to come back. He waited on me; took care of my needs. AND, made a sale.

When I was thanking him - and apologizing for just coming in without looking at the sign in the window, he told me that it's important to take care of people when they come to you. What's 1/2 hour? The difference between winning a loyal client or not. That's the difference.

And it matters! This man understands HOW to do business.

What do you think? Would you open early if someone knocked on your door? Would you reopen if you were closed and finishing up for the day?
