Don't offer bribes to close a sale.

How's this sound? - If you sign the deal today, I'll throw in a laptop free of charge.

What?! You're kidding, right?! Unfortunately, no I'm not. Salespeople are doing this very thing every day - often at the prodding of their manager.

What message do you think the bribe sends? I'll tell you. It says this - my product/service isn't really all that great and my price is high. So, to make the deal more palatable, I'll give you something of value.


Folks, if your deal can't stand on it's own, bribery isn't going to make it smell sweeter. Do yourself a favor. Offer the best product or service at the best price. Solve your prospect's problem directly and completely. And then let the process take it's course.
