I was reminded the other day of the song 'Happy Talk' from the play Flower Drum Song. Part of the chorus is 'You got to have a dream. If you don't have a dream, how you gonna have a dream come true?'
You gotta have a dream. And why not? So many people have an inkling of a dream, or want to have a dream. What stops them from going ahead and owning their dream? Fear? Probably. But moreso, I think it's too much unknown. They don't know how to make a dream come true so they avoid having one. They think to themselves that it would be nice, but they don't have the foggiest idea of how to take that leap.
Others have one but don't really enlist all the resources available to them for making their dream come true. So they struggle and start to doubt themselves.
From what I've seen, the most successful 'dreammakers' are those people who surround themselves with resources and positive influences. Sometimes it's an ear and a cheerleader. Other times it's the advice of someone who is outside the situation. And still other times it's someone with knowledge we don't have.
The great thing is that these are all resources we can find. They are out there. There really is no reason for anyone to avoid pursuing their dreams. Life is what you make it - and you have the right to make it everything you want it to be. Actually, you owe it to yourself to pursue your dreams.
My father used to say that I could do anything I wanted to do as long as I wanted it badly enough. See, that's the key. If you want it badly enough, you figure out how to make it happen. And a big part of figuring out HOW is finding those resources and putting them in place.
So have a dream! Start today making that dream come true.
